Acoustic Guitar | Martin 000-28, 1945
This vintage Martin guitar has a typical beautiful Brazilian rosewood grain. (It’s the same guitar shown on the previous page.) I used some old Brazilian rosewood from my scraps drawer for this repair, because I couldn’t find the right grain pattern on the old guitar that I usually use for parts.
The scrap wood had to be bent to match the same curve as the side, and the color was matched and finished using clear lacquer.
After the finish on the scrap piece was dry, the hole was repaired employing the same technique used on the back of the guitar (described on the previous page).
It’s hard to tell the difference in the photo between this method and the transplant technique, but there is actually a subtle difference when viewed with the naked eye.
